The inter-webs can be a sad place.

Dear Internet Explorer,

Why are you so mean? Ok, maybe you're not exactly mean. Careless? Thoughtless? Do you like watching me fuddle with code to make my pages work in your window?

You make me sad. You make me teary. Being different can be good. But this is not good, IE. This makes good people question their very self worth and position in life... Ledges start looking appealing. Sharp knives like fun toys to play with.

IE, I've come a long way with my dealings with web design. Please stop trying to be my only downer.

Sincerely,

Web Lover

Pixel pushin madness

Spent the last few days pushing the pixels of Dan's site. I got most everything down, just a few tweeks. I learned alot. Like how to pull out hair, bite finger nails, and curse words in different languages, and that I really prefer Dreamweaver to GoLive.

But seriously, I learned lots about element flow, and element positioning. Things are sinking in wit da CSS. Yeehaw.

Check out the site thus far: Dan Parilis

Next I have to finishing the remodelling of the other sites connected to this one; the Film site and the Vocal Instruction site.

I've been spending so much time on element positioning that I really gotta backtrack and hone some skills on small details like body relevant stuff; relative font sizing and whatnot.

But, for now, since I'm a little twitchy from buggy GoLive that I think I'll do some freeflow web searching for a site to reconstruct...

Small web wins and cool thingies.

To elaborate on my twittering today of "there is one thing that I really love. That point in the learning process where fear and uncertainty morph into clarity and confidence" I think I have broken through a barrier with aspects of CSS. It's really much easier than I've been making it out. Duh.

I also got the lightbox slideshow working. Messed and messed, but in the end, it worked even though I didn't end up changing anything. Freakin web crap.

I found a cool site by accident. Well, I think it's cool: A Haiku Community.

This image is inspiring me today:

It makes me wish I had a macro lens and time to play... This is one of my favorite kinds of photography. Mad close up. Venture into another world... Capture beauty where we would have looked right past. It's there, it's all around us.

Geeez I need more monies!!!

Fairy Nymph vs. techno babble.

This is where I should be filling an entire post with all my progress over the last few days...

This is where I hang my head in shame...

I did do some work. Just not as much as I shouldof couldof. And right now specifically, I'm hung up on the fact that I can't get the lightbox slideshow to work on my friend's site, and I can't figure out why. So now I'm fighting my internet A.D.D. out of frustration. Technology is not on my side today. I couldn't even get pictures from my camera onto my work computer because it couldn't find a driver. Then the camera's battery died. I killed my iPod with a drop of water, and I lost a whole page worth of firefox tabs I was sorting through. :(

When things get like this, it makes me think that I'm being told to step slowly away from all the techy scheiss and go outside to romp and frolic. I will do my evening jog when I get home, but for now I will ram my nose back into work.

RIP Frank Frazetta

To one of my muses, Frank Frazetta: You will be missed by many, but you will live on forever. You leave inspiration, creativity and beauty as your legacy.

Love what my friend Travis had to say:

"His heroes are dynamic and commanding, his women voluptuous and sexy, his monsters dark and ferocious, every image an epic of imagination. It's not sad when someone has left behind such an amazing legacy, so I'll simply say thank you, Frank Frazetta, for your contribution to the world of art. You are an inspiration to me, to my fellow artists, and to generations of artists to come. You'll never be forgotten."

His work can be seen here.

Today is day 3 of my 30 days of web design. I will admit however, that I didn't do anything yesterday. There was housework to be done, and I was feeling under the weather. I was in bed by 7, and besides a little Facebook time and a chat with a friend, I didn't do much else.

So far today I've only worked on the historical society's rotary sign.

Mother's Day

It's mother's day. Not a typical mother's day however. No mothers were seen (couldn't afford to drive to NY), and no little girl to hug me (still in CO). :(

However, it was a day full of adventure, pricker bushes, steep hills, and WIND.

Enough of the blues, back to business.

Haven't worked on much in two days. Saw Avatar finally. It was great. I'm glad it had a happy ending; becuase it makes you sad and very angry most of the way through. The CG was absolutely wonderful. Very well done.

So even though the last two days have not been productive art-wise, the day before I made some strides with my friend Dan's site and with the CHS rotary sign. I'll be working on Dan's site today while at work.

A few weeks ago, I sat with myself to work on which art form I would focus. How can I choose one, or maybe two of all these wonderful things? But how do I figure out which one I can sustain for the long haul?

Gray day

It's Saturday. I'm sitting at work. I'm by myself, the store we're connected to is still closed, all is silent. It's gray outside. I'm gray inside. The only sign of color or joy is the fluttering blue fish in the bowl on my desk. I want to go back to sleep.

Been very low energy the last couple of days. Impending doom, perhaps? Should have worn the shirt from last night to work today. It smells of the first bonfire of the season we had last night. Love that smell. Then I could have stared at my flittery fish with the scent of smoke in my nose and maybe it would have lifted my spirits.

Web Sites and beautiful mornings!

Ahhhh nice morning. Left early enough for work to take the scenic route through Chester, then along the sound past Fenwick. It's so pretty. One of these mornings I'll leave enough time to stop and take pictures.

So the meeting at the Chatham Historical Society went very well. They made a motion to go through and start a committee to get the website created. Yay! A paying gig! I also scored the task of designing the rotary sign for them for in town. Pretty neat.
Most of the members were born in the town. Most of them have lots of stories and know everyone. And, oddly enough, many of them actually lived either near or IN the house Mike and I live in! Ah, small towns.

Weekend woes, web design proposal, new freelance site.

What a hard weekend! Drove down to Long Island Saturday night for a photo shoot on Sunday. Got stuck in traffic, rear ended, then broke down 20 minutes away from my destination! Two tow trucks and four hours later (thankfully had a friend to help and pass the time) and I was finally at my friends (1 am!) and able to go to sleep, but with a 6am alarm. :( And then the job was long, hot and dirty. Was able to get my car, which cost $425 to fix, get some beers with another good friend, and then go home finally. I was BEAT. But what a nice welcome home from the S.O. :)
